NEW TRACK FROM A FIDDLE TOTIN’ ISLAND BOY

Tim Chaisson is gearing up to release his fifth studio release The Other Side, September 25 on the Bumstead record label (Two Hours Traffic, The Trews, Poor Young Things). But for now we’ve got the first single!!

The first time I met Chaisson was a brief introduction and interview re-scheduling over a year ago at Hunter’s Ale House at the ECMAs on P.E.I. I caught his set the night before and though not a fan of traditional east coast turkey in the straw style music, there was something about the tunes Chaisson and his mates were reeling out. It’s definitely got a pop feel to it but it also has a genuine dynamic, structure and emotion. Also, it has a nice red-dirt feel, which being a fellow Islander I can’t help but enjoy.

Now having met and seen his set a few times it’s no overstatement to say his new record will be one of the best of 2012 for Canadian musicians. Might as well deal with that right now. Chaisson plays and performs as if he was born on stage with a fiddle in one hand, a guitar in the other and a piano within reaching distance. Don’t expect rock ‘n roll, don’t expect songs fueled by booze and needles. Expect solid musicianship, arrangement and honesty. Not many have the balls to play from their hearts and do it with as much conviction as he and his band Morning Fold do. Too many times you see players forcing things. The square trying to fit into the circle, as it were.

Definitely check out the “Beat This Heart” single on Soundcloud and touch base with us later in the month for a review of the album and a feature with Tim and his crew of Island miscreants.
